Self publishing used to be possible only for a very few. The internet has changed that. Advanced software is cheap, website hosting costs almost nothing and the online audience grows every day. That said, you still have to write, yuo have to learn to use that advanced software, and you have to figure out how to help readers find your publications.
One of the very best features of the new publishing environment is the fact you do not have to invest a lot of time and money into a finished product before you try to sell your work. The web encourages a more gradual approach. Write a draft, see if anyone reads it, evaluate the comments and re-work your material. All this requires time. It does not require you to spend thousands on printing a book that may never sell.

I would take what you find there with a large grain of salt! Getting paid for what you write via self publishing is easier and has less risk than previously, but it will still require a lot of work. Hopefully we can build this site into a place with substantive content of real value to authors.
